Experienced full-time WordPress developer/expert needed for daily online niche publication. Must be familiar with PHP, Javascript, HTML5, CSS and other WordPress related languages. You will be the primary technical support for maintaining and improving everything related to the front end and back end of the site, including plug-ins, speed and performance, optimization, search, security, analytics, testing, servers and more. The site is updated most weekdays with 20,000 unique views and 250,000 total views per month. Current site has database of approximately 20,000 posts. Site also has a lot of video content, which is currently hosted through JW Player and embedded into posts using custom software.

Must work well under pressure and be able to solve problems quickly. Must be excellent at time management. You must be able to work with contract developers that have developed custom software designed to work with our site and mobile app versions. A good eye for web design and best practices is also required, though not actual graphic design – we have graphic designers on staff. Knowledge of SEO is very helpful. This is a small, fast-paced company where all employees wear many hats, but we require an in-house WordPress expert to manage and optimize all aspects of our site. Must be able to work well as part of a team where you will be the most technical person (at least as far as website-related matters go) and be able to explain technical issues to other members of the team that are less technical than you.

Work environment is casual, with a very flexible vacation and remote work policy, though we do want someone who will be able to work on-site in our office in Chapel Hill, NC most of the time (Monday – Friday). Some limited travel may be required when entire company travels to cover trade shows. rAVe [Publications], founded in 1998, is a news organization that provides coverage of the commercial (ProAV) and residential (HomeAV) audiovisual trade industries via a website updated daily, email newsletters, blogs, video, social media, and a variety of other mediums.
