Summary

The Digital Developer creates, manages and optimizes Casey Trees’ web content, promoting the organization, its programs and brand to increase its constituency and support base.

Essential Functions

  • Develops website content; establishes/maintains website architecture; designs page layouts; writes copy; creates user interface elements; fulfills web updates and publications organization-wide
  • Integrates the website with Salesforce CRM and other third-party platforms, ensuring users can intuitively sign up for updates, donate, purchase merchandise, volunteer, and easily participate in all Casey Trees’ programs and activities
  • Develops microsites for specifics topics, actions or audiences, including layout, user research and wireframe creation in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other programming languages to translate designs for the web
  • Conducts testing to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency and user satisfaction; implements changes to improve information architecture, navigation, content clarity and memorability
  • Analyzes web traffic; runs Google AdWords campaigns to gain insight on user behavior and acquisition; tracks landing page quality and improves SEO
  • Maintains consistent organizational/campaign branding for the website and related projects
  • Identifies/creates new opportunities for digital communications in consultation with internal departments and colleagues
  • Manages website contract support; develops contract specifications, interfaces with contractors and management of deliverables; explores options for vendors for website design, development, and services as necessary
  • Stays abreast of new features to determine their value to organization; coordinates adopts/implements modifications as appropriate/needed/instructed
  • Maintains library of responsive email templates; troubleshoots display issues across email clients
  • Connects people to trees
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Working Conditions

Work is conducted primarily in an office setting with some exceptions. See “Physical Demands.”

Physical Demands

  • While this is primarily a desk job, all CT employees may engage in tree planting/related activities in outdoor environments, year-round in the heat, cold and inclement weather and must have suitable clothing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to lift/move up to 25 pounds, lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand on a stool, etc.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time exempt position, 40-hours a week. The incumbent must be able and willing to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours when needed.

Travel

Travel is primarily local, although some out of the area travel and overnights may be expected.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, communications, graphic design, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two or more years of experience working with web content management systems
  • Strong project management, data management, information architecture, and support skills
  • Experience with implementing websites in HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Solid writing and editing skills, including strong knowledge with AP and Chicago style
  • Proficient using Adobe Creative Suite
  • A demonstrated eye for clean design in graphic and web layout
  • Strong ability to set and meet deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize assignments
  • People-oriented person who can work with individuals at all levels and abilities and explain technical concepts to non-technical people
  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Casey Trees
  • Interest in fundraising, storytelling and creative presentation of writing
  • Must be willing to grow and change as the organization changes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification or experience in Salesforce
  • Experience with other programming languages, including Python or JavaScript
  • Understanding of APIs and third-party data integration processes
  • Experience using Bootstrap and GitHub
  • Familiarity with WordPress
